Frederick George Reynolds Senior (1828–1921) was an accomplished English watercolourist, and regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. It is rumoured that the family was descended from the great English portrait painter, Sir Joshua Reynolds. Reynolds is known for his sensitive treatment of the English landscape pre-urbanisation. Many of his paintings show parts of London—including Highgate, Hampstead Heath, Southgate, Hornsey, Hackney and Richmond Park—at a time when these areas were predominantly rural. Reynolds renders the abundant vegetation with immense detail, in a subtle palette of a multitude of greens.
